First Book Grants
Thank you, First Book, for your generosity!
David Douglas Educational Foundation would like to give a shout out to First Book for their many years of partnering with DDEF to put books in the hands of our students. As a generous DDEF partner, they help provide equal opportunities to all our families by enhancing every student’s educational opportunities.
First Book is a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect kids in low-income communities with new books and learning materials. David Douglas Educational Foundation Board Member, Suzie Albin, has been tireless in her pursuit of grants for the David Douglas School District Community and First Book has generously provided many grants over the past ten years!
During the Covid-19 pandemic, First Book grants were used to:
Add books to food boxes distributed at David Douglas schools to ensure that families could access these books right away. For those who were unable to come to the drive-through for books and supplies, boxes were delivered to students’ homes to ensure books got into their children’s hands.
Purchase of a complete set of “Two Old Women”, a book about Native American culture, for Floyd Light Middle School students’ classrooms In Fall 2020.
A 2020 grant received from one of First Book’s partners provided games, toys, and stuffed animals for community families in need. These were boxed up and distributed at several of the David Douglas schools right before the holidays.
Thank you, First Book, on behalf of DDEF and the David Douglas community.
