Refurbished Bass & Cello Racks
What happens when a corporate grant request doesn't come through? Well, sometimes the David Douglas Educational Foundation special grants fund steps in and provides the next best thing!
During the months of August, September and October, 8 bass and cello racks were refurbished for students at Floyd Light Middle School, Alice Ott Middle School, and Ron Russell Middle School. In addition, one rack was refurbished for storage at the South Powelhurst facility. These racks built between 1960 and 1970 by carpenters in the district had a lot of use and wear over the years. Old carpet squares and nails were torn and missing, and the racks had been modified in some cases to accommodate individual school needs.
With a bit of vision and elbow grease there could still be some use left in them. John May, friend of the Foundation, donated his time, insight, and labor to bring them back to life. Now students have a safe place to store larger instruments during the school day!
