Horner Performing Artist Scholarship

Howard Horner, past David Douglas School District Superintendent, and his wife wanted to encourage talented young people to continue to study in the performing arts – either for professional involvement or for personal enjoyment.
In 1983, they established the Horner Performing Artist Scholarship to go to the David Douglas High School Senior selected as the OUTSTANDING PERFORMING ARTIST in the graduation class.
In June, 2007, Grace and Howard Horner donated $20,000.00 (twenty thousand dollars) to the David Douglas Educational Foundation with the provision that the funds, and interest generated by the funds, will be used to support the annual donation of $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars) scholarship to the graduating senior selected by the Music and Drama teachers as the OUTSTANDING PERFORMING ARTIST in the graduating class.

Selection is made by the Music and Drama Teachers.
Criteria – Demonstrated Talent in Performing.
Financial need is not considered.
Excellent Character, Scholastic Ability, and Desire to continue this field of study is expected.
PAYMENT:
Recipient will have one year from the award date to submit request for payment.
Recipient will provide evidence of enrollment to a qualifying institution to: Beverly Fischer, DDEF President, at fischerb310@gmail.
Payment will be by check in the name of the qualifying institution.
It is the responsibility of the recipient to request that payment be made.
